She Matters Secures $2M to Launch 'The Symptom Tracker' and Expand Cultural Competence Certification Program for Providers
She Matters is a platform that supports Black mothers by providing access to community, culturally competent healthcare providers, & resources.
She Matters, a digital health platform dedicated to reducing maternal mortality rates in minority communities, has secured $2 million in funding. This investment will facilitate the launch of the She Matters’ Symptom Tracker app, which empowers expecting and new mothers to monitor vital signs and symptoms associated with severe complications such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, and HELLP syndrome. Additionally, the funding will support the expansion of the Cultural Competence Certification program for healthcare providers.
The Cultural Competence Certification Program, an integral part of She Matters' offerings, addresses racial disparities in maternal healthcare by enhancing communication between patients and providers. By training medical professionals to better understand and engage with Black patients within the context of systemic inequalities, the program aims to mitigate maternal morbidity rates among minority communities. Notably, prominent universities and healthcare systems have adopted this training, underscoring its significance in improving healthcare outcomes for marginalized populations. Co-founded by Jade Kearney and Marguerite Pierce, She Matters emphasizes the importance of culturally-informed technology and education in tackling healthcare disparities, particularly in maternal care for Black women. Despite the challenges faced by Black female founders in accessing venture capital, this funding milestone reflects the growing recognition of She Matters' mission and its potential to drive meaningful change in healthcare equity.
