Today marks the official launch of Trace, a new platform aiming to do for AR what Canva did for design. Built by a team of Magic Leap alumni, Trace lets users create and share interactive augmented reality experiences, without writing a single line of code.
From High-Tech to Hands-On
Co-founders Greg Tran, Martin Smith, and Sean Couture started Trace to lower the barrier to entry for AR creation. “For too long, the tools to build in AR have been locked behind technical walls,” said Tran, now CEO. “We built Trace to finally make AR creation intuitive, fast, and scalable, so anyone can bring ideas into the real world.”
The platform is already gaining traction among global brands like ESPN, T-Mobile, Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom, Lenovo, and Qualcomm. Use cases span retail experiences, employee training, trade show installations, and location-based brand activations—without the need for engineering support or months of production.
Built for Creators, Not Just Corporates
Unlike AR tools embedded inside larger ecosystems, Trace is a standalone, creator-first platform designed to serve both individuals and enterprises. At events like Mobile World Congress and the Hip Hop 50 Summit, Trace-powered activations demonstrated the platform’s ability to deliver immersive storytelling at scale, with minimal setup time.
Its user-friendly interface supports mobile devices, headsets, and AR glasses, while its Web Studio allows creators to upload and customize existing 3D assets. Finished experiences can be viewed through the Trace Viewer app, available for free on the App Store and Google Play.
AR Creation in Minutes, Not Months
Whether you’re a marketing team planning a campaign or an indie creator experimenting with spatial storytelling, Trace cuts traditional AR development timelines from weeks to minutes. And with pricing starting at $20/month for premium features, the platform is positioned to scale across a wide range of users and industries.
As interest in augmented reality surges—with hardware, mobile, and enterprise adoption all on the rise—Trace arrives with a clear mission: give creators the tools to build their own spatial experiences, without needing to code or hire an entire dev team.
