Smashing the Menopause Taboo: How Elektra Health Is Rewriting the Script on Women’s Care
Elektra Health provides a comprehensive menopause care platform offering telemedicine consultations with board-certified clinicians, evidence-based educational resources, and 1:1 personalized support.
Elektra Health, co-founded by Jannine Versi and Alessandra Henderson, is on a mission to make menopause unignorable. Through a telehealth clinic, rich educational resources, and a private community platform, the company is meeting women where they are—and demanding that the health care system do better.
As Versi told Newsweek ahead of the Women’s Global Impact event in NYC, the vision is personal and urgent. “I know what it feels to be dismissed or minimized or told by a provider ‘that’s just PMS’ or ‘you need to manage your stress’ in an offhanded way when something feels wrong.” That firsthand experience is at the heart of how she leads—with empathy, urgency, and a high bar of excellence.
More Women at the Helm—And Systems That Support Them
While women make up 70% of the global health care workforce, only 25% hold leadership roles. “That gap is a moral issue and a missed opportunity,” Versi said. It’s not just about representation—it’s about the ripple effects: what gets researched, how benefits are designed, and whose health is prioritized.
To close that gap, Versi calls for more women in executive roles, investment committees, and innovation pipelines—but also systems that are structured to support them. That means flexible leadership paths, accountability on gender equity, and serious backing for women-led startups like Elektra.
She pointed to leaders like UPMC and Emblem Health as examples of organizations making real investments in women’s health—not just performative gestures. For the others still “figuring out” their women’s health strategy, she had a clear warning: “Some will regret not moving more swiftly because women are increasingly and rightly expecting better.”
