North is out to change that with a SaaS platform that not only helps companies monitor and optimize their cloud usage, it also automates license management, which can be a real nightmare. With thousands of service options (or SKUs) from providers like AWS, managing licenses manually is slow, confusing, and costly. North makes cloud licenses more flexible, almost like blockchain, so they can be shared as needed among users. North’s co-founder and CEO, Matt Biringer, brings over a decade of experience selling datacenter technology. He met his co-founder and CTO Yassine Açoine, who was so intrigued by the challenge that he built a working MVP in just 40 days. Their early collaboration laid the foundation for a strong partnership rooted in trust and a shared sense of purpose. Why North and why now?
I spent over a decade in cloud and data center sales, and my customers were wildly frustrated with the unpredictability and challenges of managing cloud expenses. I noticed that most existing tools emphasized visibility and data visualization, but they missed the mark on delivering true automation and user empathy. I wanted to solve the hardest problems users face day-to-day. I knew there was a market if we built a great product, but I didn’t expect we’d grow as quickly as we have.
What’s North’s North Star?
Our main North Stars are:
Overall cloud spend under management—how much total cloud spend is running on North.
Customer retention and employee retention—we have 100% customer retention and nearly the same for employees. I believe if you build a great product and keep both customers and employees happy, the rest of it will fall into place, including revenue and profitability.
How does North inspire “customer love”?
We have a range of customers, from small companies who check in weekly to large enterprises that integrate North into their engineering sprints. One large customer saved so much money that they could reinvest in R&D and ship products faster. I love seeing our customers grow as a result of our partnership.
Tell us about some milestones that North crushed.
We have a major product launch this week called "Cost Streams." It’s an AI cost allocation engine that helps companies allocate cloud costs across teams, similar to splitting a dinner bill among friends.
We’re also launching an LLM called "Agent North," and a new website with more technical details and interactive demos.
How has your background influenced you as a founder?
I come from a sales background, which can be a bias in the eyes of some investors. But I’ve learned it’s actually a superpower. We’ve had investors who cut really big checks... because we’re sales-led. The DNA of the company reflects this—we’re not shy about being sales-led, because it helps us break into large accounts and get constant customer feedback. You have to figure out what your superpowers are, and make sure you’re aligning that to the company the best that you can.

I have 2 kids and a 3rd on the way. I love Jiu Jitsu and am an avid soccer (football) fan—my team is Tottenham Hotspur F.C.!
