EngFlow Supercharges C++ Build Systems with tipi.build Acquisition and New CMake Tools

EngFlow, the build acceleration powerhouse founded by Bazel engineers, is making major moves to modernize software development for C and C++ engineers. This week, the Zurich-based company announced its acquisition of tipi.build, alongside the public beta launch of CMake RE, a remote execution service designed specifically for CMake users, and the release of a new open-source project called HermeticFetchContent.
The mission? To deliver faster builds, cutting-edge capabilities, and improved software safety for developers working in industries where performance and reliability are non-negotiable.
From Collaboration to Acquisition
EngFlow and tipi.build’s partnership began in 2022, when EngFlow led tipi.build’s seed investment round. The two companies teamed up to develop CMake RE, combining automated caching and cloud-based build execution to slash compilation times for C and C++ projects.
Now, with tipi.build fully integrated into EngFlow, customers will benefit from deeper expertise, powerful build caching with automated dependency analysis, and enhanced support for cross-platform builds—spanning Linux, Windows, macOS, and custom OSes.

CMake RE: Faster Builds, Stronger Security
With CMake RE now in public beta, C and C++ developers gain access to remote execution, build and dependency caching, and cross-platform build distribution via autoscaled cloud machines. These features dramatically cut build times—up to 21x faster in some benchmarks, such as with the popular Boost library—and help ensure software supply chain integrity.

Introducing HermeticFetchContent: Build Safety at Scale
Alongside CMake RE, EngFlow has released HermeticFetchContent, a CMake module that brings secure dependency management and Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) support to C and C++ projects. This is especially timely, as software safety and regulatory compliance are front of mind—driven by guidelines from the NSA, the White House, and the EU.
With HermeticFetchContent and CMake RE, teams can now build safely and efficiently, even when using sanitizers and static analyzers, which are increasingly required in regulated industries like healthcare, finance, and automotive.
Scaling Developer Productivity
For EngFlow, this is about more than just faster builds. The company’s Bazel-based platform already reduces build times by 5–10x and cloud costs by 20–50%, supporting build systems like Bazel, Buck v2, AOSP, and Chromium. Now, with tipi.build’s technology, EngFlow is bringing that same performance boost to the CMake ecosystem—without requiring teams to undergo disruptive build system migrations.
